Fall is around the corner at Mille Lacs Lake!
A person can really feel fall is around the corner. The mornings are crisp and the leaves are just starting to show color on a few rouge trees. This is quite honestly our favorite time of the year! Did you know that Mille Lacs Lake is one of the top 10 drives for fall colors in Minnesota? The end of September/ Early October can be a really beautiful time to join us. The state parks in the area offer many hiking trails for you to enjoy.
The walleye bite has been strong throughout the summer, but they did decide to close walleye for the rest of the open water season.. They are closing the walleye season starting on September 5th. There will be an artificial only regulation for the remainder of open water as well. You can however use large suckers if you would like.
You may also use live bait (any live bait) from shore.
Keep in mind that all other species of fish are able to be targeted this fall. Some of the best smallmouth bass and muskie fishing is yet to come. The smallies start grouping up off the deeper rocks in the fall and are very heavy. September is considered one of the best months on Mille Lacs by many of the bass enthusiasts.
We are very excited to have the BASS Elite series here on Mille Lacs again this fall. The tournament will be held Sept 14-17th. The weigh in’s are very exciting and fun to watch. If you did not make it last year, you should consider checking it out this year! We do have cabin availabilities still for that time.
When is the best time for muskie? Well that can be a matter of opinion, but October and November can be very good when the tulibees show up to spawn in the shallows. We consider that to be the best time for catching a monster.
We keep the cabins going until the middle of November, so if you are looking for lodging for hunting, we have you covered as well. We are surrounded by thousands of acres of state land and we would be glad to point you in the right direction for deer, grouse or other game.
We hope to see you all soon!
